Hiking around the Dong village area.....

While Chengyang is the perfect place to base yourself, if you spend your whole time there you are definitely missing out. This area is home to a variety of culture groups including a people group that speak Dong but whose customs and manners maintain Mongolian characteristics and a community where Dong, Miao and Yao cultures have merged.

The scenery is also special. The terraced ricefield landscapes easily rival those in the Dragon Backbone Rice Terraces, and the contours of the tea plantations are equally as impressive. If you're looking for authentic village experiences, great views, fresh air and serenity, put on your hiking boots and head for the hills.
