Zaidang Dong Village

Xiaohuang may be established on the tourist circuit as the place to hear Dong chorus singing, but Zaidang village offers the visitor a far more 'untouched' experience.

Requiring a reasonably steep 1.5 hour hike from the main road through hilly rice terraced country, visitors may wonder why they bothered when they reach the quiet little conglomerate of wooden houses and one medium sized drumtower. However, when the local women step onto the town square in their finery and start to sing, you will be blown away by the volume, harmony and range of sounds which emerge!

The performance here may not be as 'polished' as other places, and the food is at best mediocre, but the friendliness of the locals, and the richness of the culture here will not be forgotten.
