Camping in Zhangjiajie

This trip is not for the faint-hearted. The first day involved a very steep ascent, followed by a couple of hours through fields and villages in the dark!

The second day was the most challenging. First came a bamboo forest where we were warned to watch out for snakes. For the next few hours we followed the gorge upstream, first climbing over boulders then wading through the icy cold stream. A rest on the bank revived our energy enough to tackle another steep 2 hour ascent up to the village where we stayed the night. A home-cooked meal has never tasted so good!

The third day was a little easier on the muscles- a three hour descent down to the river through villages, fields, bamboo and rainforests. We certainly slept well that night!

In all honesty, the highlight of my 6 week trip in China and India was our camping trip. Thanks again for setting that up!
